CATO, RUGGLES, BRETT, PATTERSON
Albert Cato, Jr. 2/28/97
I am looking for info on Daniel Elbert CATO and family. My last trace of them was 1880 US Census, Dist 702, Heard Co, GA. They were in Heard county in 1860 (per census). In 1880 Daniel was 50 yrs old, wife Mary was 49, dau Lula 20, son Seaborn 17 (my Grandfather), dau Mattie J 14, dau Ida M 12, dau Lilian 9 (was called Lila (rhymes with villa)). I have a clue that Lila married one M. Horation RUGGLES, 30 July1908, in Randolph Co, AL. Another daughter married a John BRETT of Heard Co. Her name was Carrie and she died young and is buried in the BRETT family cemetary near a small place called Glenn. Several years ago I met a very accommodating gentleman there named Junior Adams who showed me the cemetary. Also, one of the daughters married a Mr PATTERSON in Franklin where he or a descendant was associated with a furniture business.
What I am really trying to determine is: when did the CATO family arrive in Heard Co, and where did they come from? Where did they go to and when, or are they buried there?
Most of my efforts concerning Heard have been spotty because most of the county official records were destroyed in a fire--so I was told. I will be most appreciative of anything I can get on this subject. Thank you.
