Searching for parents of Abram THOMPSON born ca 1820 in GA, married to Martha "Patsy" ADAMS, and had the following children: Phoebe A. born ca 1842, William born ca 1849, Sarah A. E. born ca 1850, James R. Mc born ca 1852, Katharine J. born ca 1855, Joseph born ca 1858, Martha born ca 1861, Sarah and Martha THOMPSON married brothers William ASHLEY and Reuben ASHLEY Jr. Abram THOMPSON was a Civil War soldier who died during the war. Would like to know the name of Martha "Patsy" ADAMS parents and siblings also. Some of these THOMPSON's and ADAM's family are buried in the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetary in Heard County.

Thomas Ashley was a Civil War soldier, enlisting in Co. K. 56th GA Inf. Vol., in Heard County, GA and died July 13, 1862. Elizabeth's mother is thought to be Elizabeth COX , born ca 1810 in NC, (appeared to be a widow in 1860 census and after (Heard County, GA); Elizabeth COX s hows the following children per census records from Heard County, GA: Elizabeth Cox, born ca 1842, Lewis Cox born ca 1845, Mary Cox born ca 1848, David Cox ca 1851. Would like to know where Elizabeth Cox ASHLEY and her daughter Mary Ashley went after 1862 when her husband died. Did she remarry, and did Mary Ashley live to marry and have a family?

Does anyone know which library has the old Heard County newspapers on microfilm for the time period 1880 to 1930? I would also like to know if there was more than one newspaper for Heard County, GA other than the News and Banner for that time period? I want to look up newspaper obits for Matilda and Elizabeth ASHLEY who died in October and Dec 1908 in Franklin, Georgia in Heard County, but can't find out where the old newspapers are kept for that time period. I am in Oregon so not familiar with the geneology libraries in GA.

Looking for others researching the family of Daniel BROWN from the Yellowdirt area of Heard Co. This family is mentioned on page 167 of Lynda Eller's Book. I think my husband is descended from his son Samuel, born Aug 14, 1835, Heard Co. GA according to his Civil War pension records. Have more information to share. Samuel BROWN seems to be a common name for this area. Have not been able to find this Samuel on 1860census for GA. He is not listed with his parents on census.

In 1850, the children listed were Lucinda E., Margaret J., Judge W., Joshua C., Editha C., Jesse G. (or F.), James O. In the same household were President P. Norman and Margaret A. Norman. All children except Jesse were born in South Carolina. Jesse was born in GA. Joshua nnd his wife, Carolina, were both born in South Carolina. They left GA and went to Washington Co., TX. My great grandfather, Luke Garner, was born in Heard County on January 18, 1833. The next record places him in Colorado County, TX in 1867. He is the patriarch of a wide clan of GARNERs in Texas, including my grandfather, James Sampson Garner (born March 1858 - Karnes County, TX). I am interested in any information that might exist on Luke and the Garner family in Heard County in the 1830s through the 1860s, and how Luke came to migrate to Texas. My great-great grandmother, Sara Francis BARBER (1858-1916) was married to James Thomas BURSON (1856-1924). I am searching for information on the BURSON family that moved into Heard County in the 1850's. My great-grandfather, Jessie Brooks BURSON (1889-1943), was married to Louvivia MOORE (1879-1960). His father, James Thomas BURSON (1852-1924), was married to Sara Francis BARBER (1858-1916). James' father was Hiram Shaw BURSON (1821-1903). Hiram was married to Jane EDWARDS (1819-1893). He served in "Bell's Batt." during the War of Southern Independence. After the war he became a Baptist clergyman and served the Bethel Baptist Church, on Armstrong Mill Rd., until his death and is buried at that church. I am searching for any information on James Thomas and his father, Hiram. I need the name of Hiram's parents, which I believe will take him back to Jackson County, Georgia. My great-grandmother, Louvinia MOORE (1879-1960) was married to Jessie Brooks BURSON (1880-1943). Her father was Judge Hamilton MOORE (1856-1914), her mother was Rebecca BARNES( -1889). Judge also had three other daughters, Georgia Ann MOORE (1879-1950), Molly Moore and Martha MOORE. He had FOUR sons, James MOORE, John MOORE, Robert MOORE and Joseph MOORE. In the early 1900's James and John went to Texas. Judge Hamilton MOORE's father was James Hampton MOORE. Any information on Judge or his parents would be of great help.

I am searching for any information on the CASSELS family that lived in Heard County in the 1840's and 1850's. Henry CASSELS came to the area in the 1830's and had a farm near the county line. He died in 1842 and is buried in Randolph County. His son, Benjamin B. CASSELS stayed on in Heard County, served in the 56th Reg. during the Southern War of Independence, and moved to Carroll County in the 1870's.
