Helen Sisson

November 6, 1911 - May 30, 1995

wpe1.gif (7356 bytes)Helen Lawrence/Sisson was a daughter of Jesse and Belle (nee Davis) Mortimer.  Jesse Mortimer was the son of William and Stella Mortimer who came to York Township from Chilton Township, Calumet County in the 1870s.  Belle Mortimer was the daughter of Jeremiah and Mary Davis, who came to York Township from Fond du Lac County in the late 1890s.  Belle Mortimer was a sister to Susanna Benedict, Jay Davis and  Pearl Hales, all whom are buried in York Center Cemetery.  Helen’s first husband was Gilbert Lawrence, who was a son of Horace Lawrence, the youngest son of Horace and Edna (nee Smithers) Lawrence, both whom were pioneers of York Township.  After Gilbert’s death, Helen re-married to Wallace Sisson.  Helen lived most of her life on her parents’ farm located on Pray Road, about ¼ mile north of County Highway K, in Section 21.
